Welcome to P3!

I know it can seem like a big jump from P2 especially as school doesn't end until 3.00pm. However, I will be doing all I can to welcome and settle your children into their new class and routines.

We will be making sure that we spend time to wash our hands and stay safe and well throughout the school day. There will be plenty of soap and sanitisers for us all to use.

Here is an overview of our Literacy for the term ahead. We will be developing and extending children's reading and writing through a range of circuit activities.

Currently we are revising the first 50 Keywords in our spellings and extending to the next 50. This will continue until Halloween.

We have also begun the Lingusitic Phonics Programme in class and are looking at patterns and sounds in simple consonant/vowel/consonant (cvc) words such as 'can', in vcc words such as 'ask' and in cvvc words such as 'look'.

In Handwriting, we are revising letter formation and making sure that your child's pencil grip, posture and formation is correct. Please support your child at home so that they know the alphabet and can self correct it they reverse any letters.

This term we will be doing Recount writing which at P3 level focuses on children's news. Their weekly news will be written based on, 'Who, What, Where, When, Why and How' type questions. They will be exposed to recount stories through their group, class and individual readers.

Grammar and punctuation will focus on full stops and capital letters and knowledge of sentence structure.

Children will read from a range of Oxford Reading Tree books and other publishers. Children will read in groups and at individual level with related activities to support their learning.

For the term ahead in Numeracy there will be daily mental Maths sessions and we will reinforce understanding of numbers within 20, 30, 40 and 50. Children will begin to recognise odd and even numbers and count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

They will revise addition and subtraction facts within 10. Keep an eye on your child's number formation so as to help them form the digits correctly and to overcome reversal of digits.

Children will recognise and work with coins up to 50p and carry out related shopping and exchange activities.

We will explore length by ordering and comparing objects. We will look at common 2d shapes around us and recognise o'clock and half past on the clock.

Homework will be given out on the first day of each new week. It will consist of Spellings - 4/night with revision of all words on Thursday evening.

Reading should be done each evening as well as any related worksheet or writing activity. 2 books will be sent home each week.

Maths worksheets relating to work covered in school will be sent home for Tuesday homework. All children have been assigned to Mathletics and I ask that they spend  approximately 10 minutes per evening on any tasks that I have set for them. On Thursday children can finish off any incomplete tasks.

Please send folders to school on Fridays and ensure that you have signed your child's test book each week.

PE will be on Wednesdays and Fridays and children can come to school in their PE clothes on these days.

I will be in regular contact through Seesaw so we can keep in touch with each other by this means as the term progresses.

Thank you for your support as together we help each child  realise their potential and feel settled and happy in the year ahead.
