It’s been a big few weeks of sport with the beginning of the rugby World Cup, the Derry club championship and the return of the Premier League. However these all pale in comparison to the current Faughanvale P.S Lunchtime All-Ireland. Especially on semi-final day. 🤩
In the first game, Dublin and Kerry went toe-to-toe in an enthralling game of Gaelic football. Dublin surged into the lead with two fine scores from Tomas McCloskey. Kerry soon fought back with two scores of their own, one from Dara King and the other from Darragh McCloskey. This was a consistent theme throughout, with both sides going tit-for-tat in scoring. The two teams could not be separated in normal time, with the game heading to extra time. As he’s done throughout this tournament, Darragh McCloskey grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and kicked yet another game winning point for Kerry. 👏
Derry faced Mayo in the second game of the afternoon, with a spot in the final against Kerry on the line. There was little to separate the teams in the first half, as Cole McLaughlin and Daniel O’Hara had a midfield battle for the ages with Charlie McKeever and Cara O’Donnell. At half time there was one point between the teams. However, in the second half Derry began to show their true quality. Derry kicked four unanswered scores in a fantastic second half team performance. Cathal McLaughlin was solid in nets, whilst O’Donell and McKeever controlled the midfield and Aideen Keys was a headache for the Mayo defenders in the forward line. 💪
Next Wednesday, we will be hosting a truly Titanic All-Ireland final. Derry will face Kerry in what promises to be a game for the ages. To add to the excitement, we will have a special visit from the Anglo-Celt trophy as well as the all-Ireland minor title.🏆
