P7 Fan the Flame

3rd Jun 2020

Dear Boys and Girls,

Tomorrow is the annual Fan the Flame Mass which is celebrated for all P7 children in the Derry Diocese. It is usually held in Celtic Park and is a lovely occasion in which to mark the end of Primary School for our pupils. We are all so disappointed that this cannot take place this year in its usual format.

However, as you know we will still be able to celebrate this Mass online. Bishop McKeown has sent a special invitation to you and your family to join him via webcam tomorrow, Thursday 4th June at 10am for a virtual Fan the Flame Mass which will be celebrated from St Eugene’s Cathedral.

You can access this via:

Well done to all the children and especially the P7s who submitted a video for the hymn, He’s got the whole world in his hand’. This will be played during the Fan the Flame Mass. Your names will also be presented in, ‘A Book of Names’ and brought to the Mass tomorrow.

It is a tradition that our P7s design and wear their own T-shirt for this occasion so this is something you can do for tomorrow.

Please remember to complete your Reflective Journal as this will be a lovely keep-sake and help you to remember all the experiences you have had in Primary School.

I personally will be following the Mass tomorrow and will remember all of you and your families while watching it.

Anne McGroarty
